Former Resident for Two Years
My Story
When I first arrived at Murphy-Harpst I was so mad. I was mad at the world. I was mad at the system. I was just mad. I didn’t feel like I needed to be there or that I belonged there. Most of us didn’t. After a while I decided to stop fighting everything and see what needed to be done to help me heal. I bonded heavily with the equine program provided to us and built bonds with staff and residents. With therapy, I was able to recognize that I struggled with trust and communication. By the time I left the program I was able to communicate with words instead of violent outbursts. The skills I learned in the facility have helped me tremendously. It has helped me become a better mother, friend, and person overall. I owe all of my accomplishments to Mrs. Tia Diamond, Mr. Tim, Mrs. Dulaney, Corey & Sarah Freeman, and Mrs. Jessica McWilliams. Out of all the staff members there, those were the ones who made incredible impacts on my life. The staff there care and it is apparent with the way they handle the residents. I couldn’t have asked for a better team on my side through the hardest time in my life. Because of them, I am the mother I am today. I am forever grateful for the lessons taught, hours of conversations, and laughs shared. Thank you for molding me into the person you knew I was capable of being.
