A Season of Thanks at Murphy-Harpst
At Murphy-Harpst, Thanksgiving isn’t just about the traditional turkey and trimmings—it’s a time for reflection, gratitude, and community. This season, we are reminded of the incredible ways our staff, residents, and supporters come together to create hope and healing.
Our Thanksgiving celebrations include a warm meal, the lively Turkey Bowl football game, and a meaningful partnership with the Diamond family’s Turkey Drive, which provides food to families in need in Cedartown. Our residents find immense joy in participating, helping to share blessings with their neighbors.
Reasons for Thankfulness
We also took a moment to ask our dedicated staff what they are most thankful for during their time at Murphy-Harpst. Their responses were heartfelt and inspiring:
- “For me, what I’m most thankful for at Murphy-Harpst is the opportunity to make a real impact in kids’ lives who are facing difficult circumstances. Being able to provide a safe environment, guidance, and a sense of hope—especially for kids who might not have had much of it before—is rewarding. Every small positive change feels meaningful, knowing that the work we’re doing together can set them on a better path for the future. It’s the kind of work that makes you feel grateful for the chance to be part of something bigger than yourself, where every day counts toward a lasting difference.”
— Wilson Anthony Santiago, Behavior Aid - “I’m thankful for the ability to help our students and have a positive effect on their lives.”
— Tonia Little, Principal of York Academy - “I am thankful to be part of an organization that serves children and families in need and to work with people who truly care about them.”
— Scott Merritt, CEO - “I’m thankful that a youth is comfortable and feels safe enough to come and talk with me about anything and trust me to continue making them feel comfortable and safe.”
— Dana Ellis-Darden, BA/CLA - “I’m most thankful for the opportunity to speak into the lives of my students, to pray for them, and to watch them grow physically, academically, and spiritually.”
— Mrs. Dee, Teacher
This sense of gratitude also extends to the youth we serve. Here’s what a few of our kids had to say about the Turkey Drive and giving back:
- “I enjoy helping because it feels good to help others.”
— Kyle, 15 - “It does not matter what you have; you can always help someone.”
— Zy, 16
Their words remind us of the power of generosity and compassion during the holiday season.
